[Common sense]Today, LED display are mainly divided into: full color display series, EMC display series, rental display series, traffic guidance screen series, energy-saving display series, stadium display series, customized series.
With the rapid development of internet information technology, advertising media are having more attention of the society gradually. Because of LED display’s high brightness, low working voltage, low power consumption, large scale, long lifespan, varieties and other characteristics, are widely used in stadiums, city and public square, traffic, enterprise image promotion, business advertising and other applications.
In the vigorous development of LED display industry today, incidents frequently caused by LED display have caught the wide attention of the society.
Fire accident review:
In September 24th, 2011, a big LED screen collapsed from the stage of Wenzhou Shangri-La Grand Hotel.
In September 24th, 2011, a main LED screen of Guangzhou new library, which faces the Flower city square, suddenly went on fire.
In December 16th, 2011, a LED screen at Cade shopping centre on Xi zhi men Plaza went on fire.
In December 29th, 2011, a LED screen on Yue qing City Traffic Building in Zhejiang Province Went on fire suddenly.
In April 23rd, 2012, a LED screen on top of the Harbour Grand Hotels in Hong Kong went on fire.

Fire accident analysis:
As a kind of new environment friendly and energy-saving high-tech green product, LED Display is very popular and has become cities’ indoor and outdoor advertising’s highlights with its superior visual sensory properties. So what are the factors that lead to a fire incident, above all, display manufacturers and owners should bear the corresponding liability.
Product’s bad quality, the effect of external environment and the mistake of manual operation, are the causes of fire. Secondly, when owners purchase products, low price is often placed in the first place, and neglect the quality of products. This makes some manufacturer have to cut the purchasing cost to save the production cost in order to meet the customers’ requirement on low price, thus left a risk of fire happening.
Fire technique analysis:
To analyze from the professional perspective, Dicolor optoelectronics think that the main factors that caused the fire are the following:
1. Improper use of power supply switch. Manufacturers don’t use the right power supply switch that can meet the actual required rated power switching power supply. When the actual load exceeds the rated power of the switch, power supply switch load is too large, thus resulting in power supply switch burnt out and cause fire of the LED screen.
2. Use of unqualified outer protective structure material on the LED screen. The protective structure material’s fire resistance, fire retardant, aging resistance does not meet safety standards.
3. Cabinets wiring. Cabinets wiring does not meet the standard requirement, does not meet the wiring principle, and leave hidden safety problems.
4. Power supply wiring. Distribution of power supply between modules is not balanced in DC power supply system. Distribution of power supply is not balanced in AC power supply system. These are the potential causes of the fire.
5. LED lamp selections. Always focusing on the requirement of the high brightness of the LED screen, leads to the aging of materials, and then reduces the lifespan of screen, thus caused the materials on fire.
Note: When Dicolor Optoelectronics chooses the LED lamp, we keep a balance of 20%, so as to reduce the current of module made under this design. (Current of P16 static module is around 7~8A, average current of video is about 2~3A), products are made with high stability, high efficiency, and energy saving.
6. LED brightness ratio: When some manufacturers choose the LED RGB color selection, they do not follow the principle of 3:6:1. Many manufacturers use small size LED chip in order to reduce the procurement cost of raw materials. This lead to the improvement of LED current for each single module in order to reach the white balance, and this will no doubt increase the temperature of some part of module. When part of module temperature is rising, and there is no good solution to dissipate heat, the module will show result of inconsistent brightness, and will finally cause fire as the aging of materials after long-time use.
7. Kit. Kit materials do not reach the fire retardant standard listed under<UL94V0>.
8. Glue Dispensing. Glue does not meet the standard fire retardant requirement listed under <UL E325549 V0>.
9. Wire. Wire is not selected according to National Standard. Wire wrapping material does not pass standard fire retardant requirement of <IEC 60332>.
Note: The wire core size chosen by Dicolor Optoelectronics is decided by a strict calculation at the beginning of design. To meet the practical needs, meanwhile keep sufficient margin in actual use.
10. Key components. When used for a long time, the temperature of key components can not be maintained at a reasonable level.
Matters needed to be noticed during installation and use:
1. During the installation process, LED screen body and the connecting part between LED screen body and building must be strictly leak-proof and waterproof;
2. The reasonable installation of ventilation equipment for cooling. So as to keep the screen body at a temperature of -10℃ ~ 40 ℃. Use axial flow fan behind the screen body at the top to dissipate heat.
3. The correct installation of lightning protection device. Make sure the LED display screen main body and the building enclosure grounded to earth. Thus to let go the large current caused by lightning.
4. The fault wiring of power supply wire during installation. For example, three-phase electric mix, zero and fire wire mix, strong electric directly connected to the weak electric.
5. Strictly follow the LED display using instruction. Such as first boot the IPC, and then switch on the screen; first close the screen, and then shutdown the IPC.
6. Avoid switching on the LED screen under white balance or screen out of control. Because the system impact current is at the highest point under these condition.
7. Make sure to have professionals to check and maintain the LED display regularly.
